I'd been taken for an Easter break to an Airbnb in Lewes, as part of my training for the MS Society 10 in 10 hike in June, which will see me attempt to climb 10 Lake District peaks in 10 hours (you can sponsor me here). The plan was to do a 20k walk around the South Downs, to get some elevation into the legs.

A look at the map showed me that with careful planning I could knock off one, if not two, County Tops in a day...a look at the weather forecast, with Storm Noah due to hit in the early afternoon, quickly altered that plan.

Instead I was up early and out over the Downs, heading for Bullock Hill, the CT of Brighton and Hove. Although the wind was rising, the sun shone as we gasped up the first initial steep climb onto the South Downs way:

The route took us through a breezy valley, where we watched a newly born calf take its first steps, and around the lee side of a ridge; coming to the top we found Bullock Hill itself, although the trig was fenced off:

Back onto the South Downs Way (a long distance footpath I'd like to walk in its totality one day) and then back down to the waiting pubs of Lewes.

It was a pretty spectacular walk, with views over the Downs, the sea, and Brighton itself (including the Amex stadium), and the chalk downs are cracking to walk over. One of the better Topping experiences!
