Coventry, of course, isn’t a county. However, there’s a subset of County Topping called Unitary Authority tops – basically these are those big towns and cities which hived off from counties during one of the intermittent reorganisations of local government, in this case 1974. There are many more unitaries than counties, and the hills are generally barely-perceptible pimples, but hey, I was in the area, I had an hour spare, so why the hell not?
You might know Corley as a particularly drab service station on the M6, but the nearby village is not without charm. I parked outside the Bull and Butcher pub and walked the 200m to the county top, a slight rising by a shabby old farm.

Corley Moor. You can see the epic peak at the top of the road.
Despite being so close to Coventry, the countryside around Corley is surprisingly lovely, with five miles of meandering single-track lines edged by perfectly trimmed hedgerows steering me down towards the city through rolling fields.
